US Peace Council Report on Visit to China

December 14, 2023 — At the official invitation of the Chinese People’s Association for Peace and Disarmament (CPAPD), a delegation of the leading members of the U.S. Peace Council (USPC) visited China on November 22-26 for a bilateral talk between the two organizations.

The issues discussed between the two organizations included: China’s rapid economic development and its growing role and impact on international relations; China’s modernization, peace, and global security initiatives under the leadership of President Xi Jinping; China’s peaceful diplomatic approach to the U.S.-China relations; the state of the global peace movement and the need for a more unified and effective global pro-peace effort; and a closer cooperation between the U.S. Peace Council and the CPAPD.

Discussions between the two organizations were informative, constructive, and productive. Both organizations confirmed their support for China’s efforts to advance peace and global security and agreed to maintain a closer level of cooperation and active collaboration in support of global peace, especially between the United States and China.

Bahman Azad, President of the U.S. Peace Council, and head of the delegation, summarized the delegation’s impression of the trip as follows:

“It was a great honor for the USPC delegation to be invited by the CPAPD to visit China, especially at this critical time when the U.S. government and the corporate media present China’s economic development and its growing diplomatic role in the global affairs as a ‘threat’ to the United States. What we witnessed was a modernizing China focused on promoting peaceful development for all nations and respect for international law by all states. It is our hope that with the information obtained from this visit and closer cooperation with CPAPD, we will be able to help clear the fog of misunderstanding that is being created about China in our country.”

Dr. Tao Tao, Deputy Secretary General of the CPAPD, expressed his impression of the USPC delegation’s visit as follows:

“The CPAPD is honored to invite a high-level delegation of the U.S. Peace Council to visit China as planned. And I am happy to have made appropriate arrangements for the USPC delegation and accompany them to see and experience new changes achieved by China in the New Era. We have held substantial bilateral discussions with regards to international and regional security, and China-U.S. bilateral ties. We have also reached consensus on several important issues, including revitalizing world peace movement, enhancing exchange between our two organizations, and contributing to the development of China-U.S. relationship.”

The U.S. Peace Council will hold an open event via Zoom on Tuesday December 19, 2023, at 4 PM Eastern Time, to report back to the U.S. public and the press about the positive outcome of its delegation’s visit to China. The event will include a Q/A period.
